How do you pick a fantasy football team?

Picking your fantasy football team is easy. First, you must select 11 players, with up to 7 coming from the same team. Each player comes with a points value that comes off your 100-point team budget.

The main focus is getting points and building a team that works as individuals and a unit. At FantasyDollars, contests are waged match-by-match rather than across an entire season. This gives you the opportunity to create a winning team for each match.

However, in games that are set to be heavily one-sided, clever decisions need to be made regarding which positions you allocate to players from the underdogs. Need more background info to pick your squad? Find the top news sites for fantasy football here.

How to pick your goalkeeper, defenders, midfielders, and forwards for your fantasy football team

When selecting your team, you must choose eleven players across four positions.

  • 1 goalkeeper
  • 3-5 defenders
  • 3-5 midfielders
  • 3 attackers

The range of selectable players for midfield and defense allows for tactical selections based on the teams involved in the match and how you feel it will be played out. For example, high-scoring games may benefit from fewer defenders selected, as conceded goals result in negative points.

Points are awarded based on a range of stats beyond goals and assists.

  • Goals – the points awarded for goals scored vary depending on the goal scorer’s allocated position.
  • Assists
  • Shots on target
  • Chances created
  • Successful passes (in bunches of five)
  • Successful tackles
  • Interceptions
  • Saves
  • Clean sheets

However, points are also lost based on the following five criteria.

  • Goals conceded – for defenders and goalkeepers on the field of play.
  • Yellow cards
  • Red cards
  • Penalties missed
  • Own goals

Many elements of a football match are down to unpredictable events. However, it is important, when selecting your team, to consider the full array of point accumulation methods. Games can be won or lost based on often-overlooked statistics.

Why is choosing a fantasy football captain and vice-captain important?

In every registered team, you must select a captain and vice-captain. These players receive a points multiplier. Captains receive double the points while vice captains receive 1.5 times the points. However, remember that any point deductions are multiplied by the same amount.

Name your team and confirm

Every team needs a name. Ultimately this acts as an ID for scoring and prize awards. However, a team name is also your chance to express yourself. Get creative, get punny, and come up with something that defines your team or you as a person.
